On the eastern side of New Mexico, early travelers of this vast stretch of grim and forbidding country relied on trails marked with stakes pointing the way to water. Not a tree, shrub, or any other object, either animate or inanimate, relieved the dreary monotony of the prospect; it was a vast illimitable expanse of desert prairie, the great Sahara of North America. If you made it through this, then you could expect the terrifying Comanche. who were not exactly happy with the new-comers.

Today, modern travelers past through in air-conditioned comfort with plenty of restaurants, motels and gas stations to make their travel easy. Vacation spots and quality tourist attractions combine with a wide variety of native and southwestern art that will bring you pleasure for many years to come.

"The Mother Road" through New Mexico brings travelers from all over the world to experience America the way of a road trip. Route 66 is America's Biggest Road Trip! New Mexico has a lot to offer on your road trip.
